Tan Xiangchun is a traditional, Chinese-educated senior teacher who deeply feels unappreciated at work because of his poor command of the English language. The younger generation no longer sees the importance of their mother tongue and moral education. As such, they despise and disrespect him. Gradually, Xiangchun becomes disillusioned with education and upon facing some health issues, dejectedly leaves the teaching line.

Xiangchun's wife, Kang Qianzhen, used to compile textbooks with the Ministry of Education. She had left her high-paying job for more flexibility in juggling her children and career, and started a tuition centre in the heartlands, hoping to carve out a great career in the education industry. Not wanting to be a loafer, Xiangchun becomes a staff of her centre.

Xiangchun's younger brother, Tan Xiangfeng, is free-spirited and uninhibited by nature. A trend-setter, he's a freelance DJ, model and because of his travel articles, is a celebrity of sorts. Their father died young and Xiangchun had been shouldering the responsibility of caring for Xiangfeng.

The season of giving. You guessed it... Christmas! It is also celebrated by many others from different religions. Christmas celebrations include various traditions such as the arrival of Santa Claus, Christmas trees and the exchange of gifts.

So who is this 'Santa Claus' I've been talking about? Well, I did a research on him and according to a myth, he is a merry old man with red and white clothes, with eight flying reindeer, which is later joined by Rudolph, the red nosed reindeer. The home of Santa Claus is located on or near the North Pole and he has the habit of filling socks or stockings with presents on the night of December 24th. Santa Claus is also said to possess the habit of entering houses through the chimney.

"But every myth has to origin from somewhere..." I thought while reading a web page. And indeed the myth did origin from somewhere else- 4th Century A.D. The basis for the Santa Claus is Bishop Nicholas of Smyrna (Izmir), in what is now Turkey. Nicholas lived in the 4th century A.D, as said earlier. He was very rich, generous, and loving towards children. Often he gave joy to poor children by throwing gifts in through their windows. The modern day image of Santa Claus has been very much evolved and has attained a commercial status. But nonetheless this image has still preserved the essence of the old cult.

The present day Santa Claus is variedly different from the one that originated. With changing time and culture, their has been an immense evolution of modern day Santa Claus.

Finally, what is Christmas without, PRESENTS! Christmas toys have charming qualities that are long-lasting and help children appreciate the special occasion of Christmas. Christmas toys combine fun and the opportunity for children to grow, learn and explore.

Introduction 简介

It has been a while since I first joined TPW and my job as a reporter has been pretty enjoyable so far. My boss is really, really nice and all of the other reporters are pleasant.
Since young, I had always wanted to be a reporter and realising that dream of mine has really been fulfilling. As I get assignments on a weekly basis, I have to learn to juggle my schoolwork with my job.
Just so you know, it is not all a bed of roses. There are times in which my boss gives me almost unbelievable deadlines that I still have to meet at all cost. (No offence though, boss...) But after completing your article, you get the feeling of accomplishment after your report is edited and out on the web, for all to see.
At times, it is hard. While at others, it is just plain fun. In all, I just want to tell all of you out there, if you want to be a reporter, join our crew. And harvest your own seeds.
